Why I Don't Celebrate Christmas (Tony Davis)

Image
Christmas is a hugely popular holiday celebrated by some 2 billion people worldwide. It's become such an ingrained part of modern culture that even people in nations with little or no Christian history or tradition are celebrating it in increasing numbers. Christmas is so big that it plays a key role in the economies of many nations. Christmas is big— very big. Schools and colleges commonly take a week or longer break at this time, some businesses shut down to give their employees time off, many families plan trips and get-togethers, and some people darken the door of a church for perhaps the first time all year. So it's not surprising that when people say to me happy christmas , I get some pretty shocked looks when I tell people I don't celebrate christmas. So what's up with this? Why would anyone not want to celebrate christmas like nearly everybody else? Are there valid reasons for not participating in the media driven christmas. Christmas is driven by commercia...

Zulu King praises apartheid regime

Image
King Goodwill Zwelithini praised the apartheid era during an event in Nongoma at the weekend. The National Party, he said, had built a powerful government with the strongest economy and army on the continent, but then came "this so-called democracy" in which black people started destroying the gains of the past. The king said history would judge black people harshly as they had failed to build on the successes of the Afrikaner regime. The king was speaking at his kwaKhethomthandayo royal palace in Nongoma on Saturday night during a celebration of his 44 years on the throne. He said black people "loved to use matches" to burn down infrastructure built during apartheid. Delivering a speech which ended just after midnight, the king told hundreds of people packed into a big marquee that he felt lucky that he was born the same year the National Party came to power in 1948. The king's speech came in the wake of a series of anti-government statements made by the...

ON AND OFF RELATIONSHIP

Image
Is the title for Today's Motivational Message Written by Counselor Adofoli I have lived with babies before; at one moment they want food, at the next they don't want it again. They don't seem to know what they want and parent always decide for them, whether they want or not. But growing up, they begin to make decisions on their own, knowing what they want and what they don't. Strange enough there people who claim they love you today, the next day they are out of love. They get back the next year yet with a different story. They have succeeded in turning your emotions into a switch; they put it on when they want it and turn it off when they don't want it. When asked why, they just they don't know. Only babies don't know what they want. Emotional maturity is one of the requirements of relationships, one has to be decisive. In the last two days, I met with a tertiary student who is a victim of such a relationship. She couldn't eat, sleep or study; just rest...

Women's brains age better than men's, study suggests

Image
Women are less prone to memory problems in old age but men are less likely to be affected by disabilities, a study suggests. The amount of time that men spent in a state of 'mild cognitive impairment' increased slightly, scientists from Newcastle and Cambridge Universities found. It contradicts other research which predicts that rates of dementia will increase as people live for longer. However, men's life expectancy has increased more than women's since the 1990s, the research showed. Between 1991 and 2011, the remaining lifespan of women aged 65 in England went up by 3.6 years, and that of men by 4.5 years. While for women the amount of time spent coping with moderate or severe disability had increased by seven months, and with mild disability by 2.5 years, the same trend was not seen in men. Men had only 1.3 more years of mild disability and saw no increase at all in the length of time they were affected by moderate or severe disability. Male Female Brian Wor...

Mahama berates media

Image
President John Mahama has accused the media of peddling falsehood in their reportage of a recent corruption perception report. Many accounts of the report ranked Ghana as the second most corrupt country in Africa, but according to the president, the reports were misleading as the survey conducted by Transparency International only sought to establish whether corruption in their respective countries was increasing or not. He said, "This report was not an index and did not seek to rank countries in order of perception of corruption as the CPI normally does. The simple and straight forward question that respondents to the survey were asked was how has the level of corruption in your country changed in the past year? Has it increased, decreased or remained the same?" Transparency International last week released a Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rating Ghana as the country with the second highest respondents (about 71 per cent) saying that corruption had increased over the l...

HOW TO APOLOGIZE

Image
*Viewpoint You might feel that an apology is in order only if you are responsible for the problem. When I know I'm a hundred percent at fault, it's easy to say "I'm sorry.' But when we both said things we regret, it's difficult. I mean why should I apologize if both of us messed up? You might feel even more justified if you feel that what happened was entirely your spouse's fault. "When you genuinely believe that you haven't done anything wrong," says myself, withholding an apology becomes a way of declaring your innocence." WHAT YOU CAN DO *Focus on your partner. Try to think of a time when someone apologized to you and how good that made you feel. Why not make your partner feels or for the unintended consequences of your actions. Such words can help your partner to heal. *Focus on your relationship. View an apology, not as a defeat for you, but as a victory for your relationship. After all, a person who remains offended is "more ...

Who is a MAN?

Image
A man is a beautiful part of God's creation who starts compromising at a very tender age. He sacrifices his chocolates for his sister. He sacrifices his dreams for just a smile on his parents face. He spends his entire pocket money on buying gifts for the lady he loves just to see her smiling. He sacrifices his full youth for his wife & children by working late at night without any complain. He builds their future by taking loans from banks & repaying them for lifetime. He struggles a lot & still has to bear scolding from his mother, wife & boss. His life finally ends up only by compromising for others' happiness. If he goes out, then he's careless If he stays at home, then he's a lazy If he scolds children, then he's a monster If he doesn't scold, then he's a irresponsible guy If he stops wife from working, then he's an insecure guy If he doesn't stops wife from working, then he's somebody who lives on...

Ghana is broke and messy - KT Hammond

Image
A former Deputy Energy Minister, Kobina Tahir Hammond says government is broke and will not be able to settle debts owed gas supplier Nigeria Gas. According to him, government's failure to settle its debts to power producers in Ghana accounts for their inability to clear up debts owed Nigeria gas. "Ghana owes VRA, ECG and other power producers and so how will they be able to pay off debts to Nigeria. Dumsor will indeed continue till government settles its people" he stressed. Nigeria has threatened to reduce the volume of gas it supplies through the 678-kilometre stretch of pipeline to Ghana if it does not get information on how Ghana plans to pay the money. This means that Ghana's power rationing could get worse after Wednesday if government does not deal with a $180-million debt owed gas supplier Nigeria Gas. A former Chief Executive Officer of the national power generator, Volta River Authority, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby who confirmed the issue said Nige...

PHOTOS: MEET THE RITUAL KILLER WHO USES WOMEN FOR STEW AND MEAT PIE

Image
Jorge Beltrao Negromonte was jailed for 23 years for the murder of three young women. Not only did Negromonte kill the women, he also made meat pasties from their flesh. The cannibal, who was a university professor, also ate human flesh, sauteed with onions and oregano, or made the meat into a stew with vegetables. Negromonte, 54, was reported to have butchered one woman in front of her 18-month-old daughter, then fed the toddler pieces of her dead mother for lunch the next day. When confronted with his crime, he said he saw no difference eating human flesh and tucking into some beef. So he stuffed plenty of the former into the pasties known as empadas. He sold them on the streets close to his home in Garanhuns, northern Brazil. According to reports by Daily Record, the serial killer has not savoured the "succulent" taste of human flesh for at least three years. Matt Roper, who was in conversation with the flesh-eater, said that regardless his shaved head and cold sta...

I'M TOO UGLY FOR PORN MOVIES – LIL WIN

Image
Kojo Nkansah Lil Win has dismissed the notion of starring in pornographic movies in the near future as some Ghanaian movie producers are allegedly planning to invest in adult movies. The actor describes himself as unfit for such roles because he believes pornography actors are supposed to be very handsome. Speaking in an interview on Nhyira Fm, the actor said, "There is no ugly guy in those guys we see shooting porn. They use handsome guys for the job so I won't worry myself over this". Lil Win also condemned pornographic movies as a sin in the eyes of God and against the teachings of the Holy Bible.
